About, Sunday's Well Swimming Club

Sunday’s Well Swimming Club, the ‘Well’, was founded in 1924 in Cork City. The Club celebrated its 75th anniversary in 1999. Historically, the Club has retained a strong competitive orientation based on a solid teaching base and operates on a purely amateur basis.

Club Colours 

  • Club Colours and Coat of Arms: Green, red and white are the colours of all the Sunday’s Well group of clubs.

  • Sundays Well Rugby Club is based at Musgrave Park, while Sunday’s Well Tennis Club is located in the Mardyke across the river Lee from the slopes of the Sundays Well district of the city.

  • The right to use the Arms of City of Cork was granted to Sunday’s Well Swimming Club by Cork Corporation for services rendered to the community. The motto of Cork City is ‘statio bene fide carinis’, which means ‘a safe harbour for ships’.

Mission

  • To provide comprehensive teaching and coaching facilities and to engage in all aspects of competitive swimming to the highest level.

  • To provide a positive and safe environment for all it’s members.

  • To foster and develop swimming and to use the same in promoting the development of physical and moral qualities that come from swimming, whether in competition or otherwise.

Squads 

  • SWSC caters for all types of swimmers, ranging from 5 years of age to adults. For those interested in progressing to competitive swimming SWSC affords these swimmers that opportunity.

  • For those that wish to swim for other reasons, SWSC offers those the opportunity to remain as a club member and swim non – competitively.

  • SWSC swimming year is divided into 2 terms: term 1 from September – February, term 2 from February – June.

  • We are a non- profit organization and the club is run by committed volunteers ranging from the committee to teachers.

Learn To Swim

  • The Learn to Swim Programme at SWSC teach children aquatic skills as early as 5 yrs old.

  • Our teaching sessions range from levels 1 – 9 and are taught by qualified instructors with a vast knowledge, experience, and understanding of aquatic skills.

  • The main body of instructors have progressed through the SWSC swimming programme from an early age and advanced to become top competitive swimmers.

  • They are committed and passionate about teaching the next generation in SWSC and to passing on their knowledge to develop and progress the aquatic skills of the younger swimmers
